Description

This course is an introduction to diverse institutional, cultural, historical, and contemporary issues relating to African-Americans, Asian Americans, American Indians and Chicano-Latinos in the United States.

Recommended Preparation

Introductory coursework in U.S. History or Sociology

10. Contemporary issues

Student Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to:
1. Demonstrate an understanding of basic context of foundations of Ethnic Studies;
2. Demonstrate a comparative understanding of the concepts of race/ethnicity, class and gender/sexuality, and institutionalized racism;
3. Demonstrate a comparative understanding of the diversity and contributions of various ethnic groups; and
4. Demonstrate how race, class and gender have shaped ethnic experiences in the U.S.
