Keith O. Boyum took the position of Associate Vice Chancellor, Academic Affairs for The California State University on August 1, 2004. In the CSU Chancellor's office he serves as principal advisor to the Executive Vice Chancellor, Academic Affairs on policy development and strategies, and provides operational direction and management for Academic Affairs departments.
Previously, Boyum was Professor of Political Science and Associate Vice President, Academic Programs at California State University, Fullerton. As an academic administrator, he oversaw graduate and international programs, accreditation and quality control, and new program development. His long list of faculty governance activities includes ten years of service on the (statewide) Academic Senate of The California State University, and election twice to Chair the CSUF Academic Senate.
Boyum's scholarship and teaching focused principally on judicial processes and administration. A former Editor-in-Chief of The Justice System Journal, he is an author / editor of scholarly books including Empirical Theories About Courts (1983), Forecasting the Impact of Legislation on Courts (1980), and others. His research and his consulting for the courts of California brought him the 1994 Warren E. Burger Award, the first academic to win the prize for improving the nation's justice system.
Boyum's work has also focused on California government themes. He directed Cal State Fullerton's Center for Public Policy, overseeing and publishing results from quarterly citizen surveys. He is senior co-author of California Government in National Perspective, (4th edition, 2001).
Boyum was named Cal State Fullerton's Outstanding Professor for 1993-94, the campus' highest faculty honor.
