4860 RECORDS RETENTION AND DISPOSITION

References: State Administrative Manual, Section 1665; Records Retention
Handbook published by the Office of Records Management.

The Office of Records Management, Department of General Services, has
published a Records Retention Handbook which contains preliminary
information, policies, recommended guidelines, and samples of forms that
can be used by campuses as a model for managing a records retention
program. This manual can be obtained through campus Records
Management Coordinators from the Office of Records Management.

Maintaining current records retention schedules is one tangible component
that highlights campus efforts to maintain continuing programs for the
economical and efficient management of records. Any changes which impact
the retention and disposition of records should be reflected in campus
maintained schedules. Schedules which have not been updated for five years
should be updated following the five-year physical inventory and appraisal
process mandated by the State Administrative Manual.
