4030  ORGANIZATION OF THE CSU PUBLIC SAFETY FUNCTION

The CSU Departments of Public Safety are part of the organizational structure 
of the campuses, which function as entities within the California State 
University system.  Systemwide policies and certain administrative 
procedures emanate from the Office of the Chancellor.  The operational 
programs and the implementation of policies are administered locally.

Each campus should develop an operational statement detailing the 
organizational authority of its Department of Public Safety and the hierarchy 
to be followed in its administration.  Campuses may elect to accomplish law-
enforcement functions through varying combinations of generalist and 
specialist resources.  The approach used in each department will be 
communicated for the understanding of all involved personnel and 
recipients of the involved services.
