2801.03  COLLEGE WORK-STUDY (CWS) PROGRAM

The College Work-Study Program was authorized by the Economic 
Opportunity Act of 1964, Public Law 90-575.  The Higher Education 
Amendments of 1968 transferred the statutory authority for the program to 
the Higher Education Act of 1965, as amended.  The program currently is 
authorized under Part C, Title IV, of the Higher Education Act of 1965, as 
amended by the Educational Amendments of 1968, 1972, 1976, and 1980.

The purpose of the College Work-Study Program is to stimulate and promote 
the part-time employment of students attending institutions of higher 
education.  The program provides support for individuals who are in need of 
earnings from employment to pursue courses of study at eligible 
postsecondary institutions.
