Podcast Learning
Several CSU campuses have adopted iTunes U, innovative software that enables students to download podcasts of such items as lectures, campus news, and class notes. The service, developed and hosted by Apple Computer, Inc., enables students to download audio, graphic and video images onto their Macintosh or PC computers, then copy them to their iPods to listen or view anywhere.
CSU and the Entertainment Industry
CSU campus deans and others supporting a system-wide industry initiative met to discuss the development of industry partnerships to prepare students for careers in the entertainment industry. The CSU grants 88 percent of the radio and television broadcasting degrees in the state, 66 percent of the state’s journalism and mass communications degrees, 59 percent of the visual and performing arts degrees, and 58 percent of the fine arts and arts studies degrees.
Campuses Honored for Community Service
Twelve CSU campuses recently received national awards from the Corporation for National and Community Service for their extraordinary service to their communities. Nearly 200,000 CSU students—half of the system’s student body—give back to their communities in significant ways. In 2005/06, CSU students provided 30 million hours of service, which equals a minimum wage value of $200 million.

Recognizes Nursing
Scholarship Recipients
California State University San Marcos recognized 10 outstanding nursing students during a scholarship awards ceremony in the new School of Nursing. The School of Nursing opened its doors to its inaugural class, which includes 44 students, on August 24, 2006. Each student is the recipient of a Cal State San Marcos Nursing Gala Scholarship in the amount of $1,000, created through gifts to the university. More information about Cal State San Marcos.
