Students Urged to Apply for Financial Aid by March 2nd
February 23, 2010

Reminder for all CSU students, both current and prospective:
Tuesday, March 2, 2010 is the priority deadline for the state of California processing with the Free Application for Federal Student Aid Form (FAFSA) and for Cal Grant consideration. Because some program funds are limited, students should apply by this date to be considered for all potential financial aid. Students who apply after the March 2nd deadline may receive limited financial aid.
While the CSU remains affordable, all students are encouraged to apply for aid, especially given today’s economic times. Don’t miss out on the variety of federal, state, and CSU programs that are available to assist you. Apply early for the best opportunities.
The application is free and can be completed online at www.fafsa.ed.gov.
Why is it important to apply for financial aid by March 2?
More than half of all CSU students receive some form of financial aid to assist with meeting their educational expenses, and 45 percent of undergraduates have their fees fully covered by grants or waivers.
On average, CSU financially-needy undergraduate students receive grants covering 100 percent of the State University Fee if they are:
1) Dependent, undergraduate students from families with incomes less than $70,000, or
2) Independent, undergraduate students with family incomes less than $20,000
Students with higher income, and dependent students with higher family incomes, may still qualify for many forms of aid including grants, scholarships, work-study and subsidized or unsubsidized loans.
