California State University Honors Núñez with ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’
(April 28, 2008) – California State Assembly Speaker Fabian Núñez (D- 46th District) has been selected by the California State University system to receive a “Lifetime Achievement Award” during the CSU’s annual Legislative Day luncheon at the Sacramento Convention Center on April 28th.
The CSU’s students, alumni, Board of Trustees, Chancellor, and the 23 campus presidents will honor Núñez for his work in support of higher education.
“Speaker Núñez is a dedicated supporter of education” said CSU Chancellor Charles B. Reed. “As a leader in Sacramento, he has has worked diligently to forge alliances and make significant changes for California’s public higher education systems."
Assemblyman Núñez began his government service as the political director for the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor and is serving as the representative of California’s 46th Assembly District. Now in his fourth year as Speaker, he has served longer than any other Speaker since Californians adopted term limits in 1990.
"I am delighted to receive this honor from the California State University,” said Speaker Núñez. “Now, more than ever, it is crucial that we support our state’s educational system."
The CSU Alumni Legislative Day, held every spring, is a key opportunity for the CSU's 23 campuses to come together in Sacramento and collectively advocate for the CSU, the state leader in high-quality, accessible, student-focused higher education.
During the day, participants, including CSU alumni leaders, campus representatives, donors and community members from each legislative district visit legislators to discuss the critical role the CSU has in maintaining California’s economic prosperity.
Also receiving the award along with Speaker Núñez is California State Senate President pro Tem Don Perata.
