California State University Receives 138,000 Applications
For Fall 2009 During First Month

(October 31, 2008) –As of midnight Thursday, Oct. 30, the California State University system received more than 138,000 applications electronically for fall 2009. The number of applications is up 17 percent from the same time last year.
Applications were filed in the following categories:

Students planning to go to a CSU campus as first-time freshmen are strongly encouraged to apply now to increase their chances for admission to their preferred campus. The priority application period for this category of students will close on Nov. 30.
Prospective students should visit the website www.csumentor.edu to complete the online application and obtain information about CSU campuses and financial aid.
Last year CSU received close to 400,000 freshman applications and enrolled nearly 54,000 first-time freshmen.
Application closing dates for other categories of students vary by campus and program.
Students interested in transferring to the CSU from community colleges, seeking teacher credentials or graduate program candidates are encouraged to check for deadlines with their campus and program.
