CSU Seeks Stimulus Dollars for Intelligent Energy
October 2, 2009 -- CSU is seeking federal dollars to launch energy efficiency projects for 938 buildings on all 23 campuses, creating or sustaining 1,100 jobs. The project, which is all about intelligent energy use, is called Energy IQ (eIQ).
Once fully operational, eIQ will reduce campus energy usage by 90,000 megawatt hours per year, saving the CSU $20 million annually.

HSU Professor Stephen Sillett's research into California's redwoods is highlighted in the October National Geographic cover story and an Explorer episode entitled Climbing Redwood Giants.
For six months Sillett worked with National Geographic photographer Nick Nichols and writer Michael Fay, capturing images, video and stories that Sillett calls "mind-blowing."

Zipcar, the world's largest car sharing service, and three CSU campuses– San Francisco, Chico and Long Beach–have partnered on campus based car-sharing programs. Self-service cars – including Honda Insights and Scion XBs – will be available for faculty, staff and students.
The San Francisco partnership began in 2006. Programs in Chico and Long Beach were announced in fall 2009.

The National Science Foundation has awarded $2 million to Sacramento State and $1 million to Humboldt State for their partnership in the California Environmental Legacy Project.
The project is a statewide initiative to enhance public understanding of California’s rapidly changing environment.

CSUSB's Palm Desert campus is offering green building construction, green energy management, and sustainable practices certificate programs online through the College of Extended Learning.
Each program consists of five courses that can either be taken individually or in combination to earn a certificate in a specific area of emerging green industries.
