CSU Monterey Bay’s caps and gowns are nearly the same price as last year’s polyester regalia – however they are made from plastic water bottles. It takes about 23 bottles to make each gown, which is made from fabric spun from plastic pellets.
San Diego State University’s graduates will be among the first in the nation to wear new sustainable caps and gowns made from a material that will decompose within one year. The zippers are also made from 100 percent recycled plastic.
