CSU FUNDING
External Funding 2004-2005
The CSU received nearly $285 million in philanthropic support in 2004-05. This voluntary
support includes gifts and pledges from alumni, parents, corporations, foundations and
other organizations and individuals.
CSU campuses also raised additional funds through operating grants and contracts
totaling more than $1 billion. The total external funding for the CSU in 2004-05 was
nearly $1.3 billion.

The CSU is raising about one dollar from external funding for every three

the total the CSU collected from student fees in 2004-05.
In the early 1990s, the CSU Trustees encouraged campuses to increase their
efforts in fundraising. As a result, voluntary support has grown steadily in the
last decade, alumni membership has reached 116,000, and campus endowments have
risen to total $678 million.
