 ALUMNI
Impact The CSU has 2 million
alumni, outnumbering the population of every city in California except Los Angeles.
More than 200 alumni, including 46 legislators, work in the state capitol. Nationally,
at least 15 CEOs of Fortune 500 companies are CSU alumni.
CSU alumni are the engine of the state’s productivity and key to the state’s future.
One in 10 members of California’s workforce is a CSU graduate and the majority of
the state’s teachers are CSU alumni. Approximately half of the California State
Teacher of the Year award recipients, since the award was first given in 1972,
are CSU graduates.
CSU graduates have distinguished themselves in every field, including arts and
entertainment, business, education, journalism, public administration, the sciences,
sports and agriculture. CSU graduates are the core of California in virtually every
field of endeavor.
Among noted CSU alumni are director Steven Spielberg, novelist Anne Rice, actor/director
Tom Hanks, astronaut Robert “Hoot” Gibson, astronomer and comet discoverer Carolyn Shoemaker,
41st Treasurer of the U.S. Rosario Marin, and former Olympic Games organizing committee
president Peter Ueberroth.

CSU Alumni Council Every campus has an active alumni
association with members who provide valuable services, programs and resources for
the campuses. They help to raise funds, maintain relations with legislators and
heighten the awareness of the value of the CSU. These associations are represented
by the CSU Alumni Council, which promotes the interests of the CSU and its alumni,
serves as an advocate for the system, and facilitates the professional development
of alumni staff and volunteers. |
