CSU Teacher-Scholar Summer Institute 2001
California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo
June 24-27, 2001
Welcome
Welcome to the CSU Teacher-Scholar Summer Institute 2001. We are very pleased that you are spending a few days of your summer here with us and with colleagues from every campus in the system. We hope that you will find the presentations and activities stimulating and the institute an opportunity for reflection and renewal.
I look forward to the chance to meet you and welcome you personally. If you have any questions or problems during the conference, please contact me or one of the assistants working at our registration table. If you need immediate assistance, please call one of us at 909-218-5405 (ITL cell phone), or call our local arrangements coordinator, Professor Joe Grimes, on his cell at 805-550-6025.
You will be working hard this week. I hope you also have a chance to tour and learn about your sister campus, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, as well as enjoy meeting new colleagues from around the state.
We are very grateful to Cal Poly for inviting us and offering the expert assistance and support of faculty and staff. We appreciate the wonderful contributions of Vice President Paul Zingg, our PAC performers, Terry Spiller and Martin Harms, our Trustees Laurence Gould and Harold Goldwhite, and our tour and walk guides, Bernie Goldstein, V.L. Holland, Stan Henderson, Meg Abel, and the Cal Poly students as well.
Our gratitude also to Professor Joe Grimes, who directs the new Cal Poly Center for Teaching and Learning, for taking on the responsibilities of local arrangements coordinator for TSSI 2001. All year, he and his assistants have been working with us and with the many offices on campus to secure technical support, meals and refreshments, tours, transportation, lodging, and the beautiful PAC facilities - in short, everything required for a successful summer institute for out-of-town participants.
Finally, to the workshop leaders, I want to extend my appreciation for their work in preparing excellent courses and materials for the workshop sessions, our primary reason for holding this summer institute. All are teachers and scholars, and we are grateful for their time, expertise, creativity, and generosity in sharing their work.
Best wishes,
Carol Holder, Faculty Director, CSU ITL
