The Institute for Teaching and Learning (ITL) is a California State University System organization devoted to coordinating and facilitating the advancement of teaching and learning. Its primary mission is to provide assistance and resources in support of the highest standards of university teaching excellence and to provide support for faculty members to grow professionally.
Under the guidance of a systemwide advisory board, the ITL works with CSU campuses to stimulate the interests and promote the involvement of faculty members in improving the university teaching and learning process and in engaging in scholarly and creative activities. The Institute fosters and supports faculty research that contributes to effective teaching and learning in and across the university disciplines.
Emphases include different learning styles and the effectiveness of various university teaching strategies with diverse and changing student populations in a multicultural environment. ITL also works with campuses to develop mechanisms for the systemwide sharing of resources in instructional and professional development and for the systemwide dissemination of university teaching, learning, and professional strategies.
