About the Journal

The California State University's Institute for Teaching and Learning (ITL) created Exchanges, the CSU's on-line journal of teaching and learning. Exchanges emerged on-line in January 2001, after nearly two years of hard work and planning by founding editor Carol Holder. The editorial board agreed that it wanted a high-quality, professional forum for the faculty exchange of ideas and information on teaching and learning, and we hope readers find that this vision has been realized.

This online journal has provided a forum for CSU faculty members to publish their scholarship of teaching projects, as well as their experiences, viewpoints, reviews, questions, and creative works related to teaching and learning. All submissions were reviewed by editors, and, in addition, all research articles were double-blind peer-reviewed. Exchanges has encouraged the collegial discussion of innovative pedagogy, classroom research, outcomes assessment, community service learning, and other initiatives of interest to faculty throughout the system, which includes more than 23,000 faculty members and 400,000 students.

Exchanges suspended editorial activity at the end of 2006 and no longer accepts submissions. However, all published material continues to be available on this website. To find articles, see departments, author's name or list sorted by date of publication.
