Korea: Overview

The CSU International Program in Korea is arranged through the International Division of Yonsei University. Yonsei is the oldest university in Korea, dating to the founding of a hospital to teach and practice Western medicine. The hospital combined with Chosun Christian University in 1957 to form Yonsei. Today, Yonsei University is a large modern university with 18 graduate schools, 21 colleges, and a student population of over 30,000, which includes more than 1,000 international students from 20 different countries.

Over the last several decades, modern Korea has been one of the rising economic powers of Asia. Abundant human resources, high levels of investment and business productivity, and an export-oriented development policy have propelled Korea to its present position as one of the world's leading exporting nations.

Seoul, with a population of 12 million, is the capital of Korea as well as the center of political and economic life in Korea today. Yonsei University is located on a large wooded campus only 20 minutes away from the center of government and the headquarters of many major corporations.
