I was born in Los Angeles to Chinese parents. My two native languages are Cantonese and English. I was not satisfied with studying Mandarin in America because I wanted to get a better understanding of my own culture. I've always wanted to visit China. I applied to the IP program because it gave me an opportunity to explore my roots. I needed a better way to learn Mandarin because I hope to do business here someday.
Here is a picture I took of the Great Wall. The view is beautiful, and it was nice to look back at the scenery after climbing the stairs.

Getting around Beijing is fairly easy because public transportation is not only convenient, but also affordable. It only costs 2RMB (30 cents) to take the subway, and 1RMB (15 cents) to ride the bus. You could also take a taxi; however, once traffic jams, total distance and waiting time are all added together, it's no faster. Be warned that during rush hour the bus stops and subway stations get really crowded. I recommend getting a bike because it provides a perfect way to get around Beijing.
