Legislative Profile: Juan Arambula
Since 2004, Assemblyman Juan Arambula has represented the 31st Assembly District, which includes the communities of the central San Joaquin Valley. Assemblymember Arambula is a member of the California State Assembly Higher Education Committee. This committee has jurisdiction over private universities, state universities, and community college systems, as well as postsecondary education and financial aid.
Assemblymember Arambula’s top legislative priorities are to improve California’s business climate, encourage job creation and retention, and improve student academic achievement. During the 2007-08 legislative session the Assemblymember introduced 29 bills, including legislation to reform the management of troubled schools; improve water management and drinking water quality; secure state bond funds to improve air quality; and meet the needs of small communities as well as encourage job growth in the clean technology industry.
Assemblymember Arambula graduated with high honors from Harvard University, and went on to earn a Master's Degree in Educational Administration and Policy Analysis from Stanford University and a law degree from the University of California, Berkeley. From 1987 to 1996, he served on the Fresno Unified School Board working to meet the needs of diverse students. Assemblymember Arambula also served on the Fresno County Board of Supervisors from 1997 to 2004.
Presently, Assemblymember Arambula lives in Fresno with Amy, his wife of 30 years. He has four adult children and one grandson, Izel.
