Legislative Profile - Jim Beall, Jr.
Assembly Member James (Jim) Beall, Jr. (pronounced Bell) was elected to represent the 24th Assembly District in November 2006, replacing Rebecca Cohn. The 24th Assembly District includes the cities of Campbell and Saratoga, parts of Santa Clara and San Jose, and small parts of Cupertino and Los Gatos.
Assembly Member Beall is a member of several Assembly Committees, including Higher Education. This Committee has jurisdiction over university, state university, and community college systems, postsecondary education, and student financial aid. He also serves as chair of the Committee on Human Services.
Assembly Member Beall’s legislative interests include human services, transportation, health and education. Currently he has ten bills in session, four of which are education related.
Since 1994, the Assembly Member served on the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors, and was elected its chair in 2006. Prior to that, he served as a San Jose City Council Member for 14 years. He was chair of the Metropolitan Transportation Commission from 1998 to 2000 and served as an ex officio board member of the Valley Transportation Authority. In addition, Assembly Member Beall chaired the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors’ Children, Seniors and Families Committee, was vice chair of the board’s Public Safety and Justice Committee, and was vice chair of the Legislative Committee.
Assembly Member Beall has lived in the 24th Assembly District his entire life and graduated from San Jose State University (SJSU) with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science.
At the recent Sacramento reception celebrating SJSU's 150th anniversary, Mr. Beall enthusiastically talked about his alma mater and the generations of his family that completed their degree at (SJSU).
