CSU Spring Advocacy Day -- May 23, 3007 -- Reminder

The California State University (CSU) in partnership with state and campus CSSA leaders will be holding its annual Spring Advocacy Day on May 23 starting with a morning briefing at the Sacramento Hyatt Regency in Regency Room C. Registration will begin at 10:30 am, with the formal program starting at 11 am.

This year the CSU will be asking the legislature to support the Governor's January proposal and May Revise including the $3.6 million for nursing and restoring the $7 million in outreach and academic preparation. In addition, system and student leaders will ask for additional funding of approximately $46 million for the over-enrollment of 6,300 Full-Time Equivalent students (FTES) expected in the Fall and $41 million to cover additional costs in 2007/08 related to contracts with faculty and staff unions.

Patrick Lenz, Assistant Vice Chancellor for the Budget, will provide a quick review of the budget in light of the May revisions that will have just been released. Assistant Vice Chancellor Karen Y. Zamarripa will then provide you with some key messages to help guide campus delegations discussions in the afternoon. As has been the practice in the past, attendees will be asked to participate in a feedback session with Chancellor Reed at the end of the day.

Please remember to be thinking of a campus designee to act as the lead individual to share the CSU message with the legislators at this key juncture in the year.
