The CSU Office of Federal Relations (OFR) works in Washington, D.C., to advance the interests of the nation's largest and most diverse university system. The OFR serves as a resource to Washington-based policymakers, including the California Congressional delegation, as well as to educational associations and media. The OFR also leads system efforts each year to formulate and coordinate the federal priorities of the CSU's 23 campuses.
This August, CSU Bakersfield alum Rep. Kevin McCarthy (BS 1989; MBA 1994) assumed the role of House Majority Leader, the number two position in the U.S. House of Representatives. Elected to the post in June by his fellow House Republicans, McCarthy is responsible for managing the House’s legislative agenda and serving as a representative of the Republican Party. A long-time champion for California and the CSU, Rep. McCarthy has been a rising leader in Congress since he was first elected in 2006.
By the end of the 2014-15 academic year, McCarthy will be one of 3 Million proud CSU alumni who are making a difference in the lives of the people of California and the world. On September 17, 2014, all CSU alumni in the Washington, DC vicinity are invited to join the California State Society for Back to College Night, which celebrates California’s outstanding colleges and universities and their graduates. This year, the well-attended event will take place from 5:30 to 7:30pm in the Rayburn Cafeteria.
