Category III Miscellaneous Course Fees for Lower Division Chemistry, Upper Division Chemistry, Biotechnology, Lower Division Physics, Upper Division Physics, Mass Media, Visual Arts, Music, and Theatre Arts - Executive Order Number 1025

Attached is a copy of Executive Order No. 1025, which authorizes California State University, San Marcos to establish Category III miscellaneous course fees for the above listed programs.  The Music 393 fee for private music lessons cannot be established at this time.  This fee was proposed as a means to cover the cost of instruction, which is not an allowable use of miscellaneous course fee revenue. 

In accordance with policy of the California State University, the campus president has responsibility for implementing executive orders where applicable and for maintaining the campus repository and index for all executive orders.

Category III Miscellaneous Course Fees for Lower Division Chemistry, Upper Division Chemistry, Biotechnology, Lower Division Physics, Upper Division Physics, Mass Media, Visual Arts, Music and Theatre Arts at California State University, San Marcos

This executive order is issued under the authority granted by Education Code Sections 89035 and 89700, Standing Orders of the Board of Trustees, Chapter II (i), and Board of Trustees’ Resolution RFIN 03-04-00, and consonant with Executive Order Number 740. Effective October 19, 2007, California State University, San Marcos is authorized to establish the following Category III Miscellaneous Course fees: Course Fee Rate Items covered by the fee Lower Division Chemistry Courses: CHEM 100L, 150, 201L, 202L, 275 $30 Instrument maintenance, repair and replacement, reusable and disposable laboratory materials Upper Division Chemistry Courses: CHEM 351L, 404L, 405, 416, 499 $35 Instrument maintenance, repair and replacement, reusable and disposable laboratory materials Biotechnology Course Fee: BIO 355, 356 $45 Consumable supplies, repair and replacement of equipment used in laboratories Lower Division Physics Courses: PHYS 201, 202, 203, 205, 206 $25 Purchase of equipment used by students in class including electronic clickers, sensors and LED devices – all used for in-class participation Upper Division Physics Courses: PHYS 301, 402 $30 Purchase of equipment used by students in class including electronic clickers, sensors and LED devices – all used for in-class participation Mass Media Course Fee: MASS 302 $20 Supplies, repair, maintenance and replacement of aging equipment. Visual Arts Course Fee: VSAR 110, 130, 131, 301, 303, 304, 305, 306, 309, 406, 440 $20 Consumable art supplies and materials used for hands-on class instruction, student projects, materials for exhibition design and construction and video and photography supplies. Music Course Fee Range: MUSC 304, 402 $10-$20 Purchase of reference books and software for classroom use and repair, replacement and maintenance of equipment. Theatre Arts Courses: TA 305, 489 $20 Supplies and equipment such as theatrical lighting effects, sets, props and costumes for theatre productions. In accordance with Section 89721(l) of the Education Code, revenue collected from Category III fees shall be deposited in a local trust account.
