Student Academic Field Experience for Credit Liability Insurance Fee - Executive Order No. 1012

Attached is a copy of Executive Order No. 1012, which establishes a Category III Student Academic Field Experience for Credit Liability Insurance Program (SAFECLIP) fee for students performing community service or volunteer work for academic credit, and students enrolled in the Entertainment and Media Internship Program.

California State University Risk Management Authority will bill each campus for their total premium deposit, based on student enrollment numbers provided by the Chancellor’s Office.  The fee authorized by this executive order may be charged to recover that cost, but is not required.  The fee can only be charged to students who will be covered by this policy.

In accordance with policy of the California State University, the campus president has the responsibility for implementing executive orders where applicable and for maintaining the campus repository and index for all executive orders.

Title:

Student Academic Field Experience for Credit Liability Insurance Fee

This executive order is issued under the authority granted by Education Code Sections 89035 and 89700, Standing Orders of the Board of Trustees, Section II (i), and Board of Trustees' Resolution RFIN 03-04-00, and consonant with Executive Order Number 740. Effective August 1, 2007, campus presidents, after consultation with the student fee advisory committee, are authorized to establish a Category III Student Academic Field Experience for Credit Liability Insurance Program (SAFECLIP) fee.  The SAFECLIP fee will cover the cost of providing a systemwide blanket student professional and personal general liability coverage for students performing community service or volunteer work for academic credit, and students enrolled in the Entertainment and Media Internship Program.  The 2007/08 fee is set at a rate of $7 per student for coverage over the full college year, an amount equal to the premium cost inclusive of taxes and fees.  The Systemwide Office of Risk Management will inform campuses annually of any change in the price of the premium for this policy.  Future adjustments to the SAFECLIP fee should be processed consistent with CSU student fee policies and at no time shall the fee exceed the premium cost inclusive of taxes and fees. In accordance with Section 89721(l) of the Education Code, revenue collected from Category III fees shall be deposited in a local trust account.
