English and Math Standards Projects
In 2000, the California Academic Partnership Program (CAPP) funded a process demonstration program to implement model high school graduation content standards in English and mathematics being developed in California. The primary objective of the process demonstration programs is to address the best ways in which high school teachers can be assisted in the successful application of content standards in their classrooms.
CAPP selected a limited number of districts best reflecting California demographics. These districts were given 5 year contracts (1999-2004) to engage in significant curriculum reform efforts and in the consideration of content and performance standards. The long-term goal in the implementation of content standards is to assure that all high school graduates are able to demonstrate mastery of the specific content standards necessary to enter higher education or to move directly into the workforce.
