Interactive Multimedia Instruction in Mathematics

CAPP is a partner with Academic Systems Corporation, UC Santa Cruz, and Everett Alvarez High School in Salinas in a three-year program to evaluate the effectiveness of a mediated mathematics curriculum in increasing the number of students completing college preparatory mathematics. Everett Alvarez has an enrollment approaching 2000. About 3/4 of the students are Hispanic and over 40% of enrolled students have limited English proficiency. First year results from this project indicate that students who participated in the mediated mathematics pre-algebra program performed better on the independent assessment instrument (MDTP Algebra Readiness Test) than did those students who received traditional instruction.
