CAPPCOM is a four year integrated program, in the San Benito
School Communications Career Path that is tied to post-secondary
degree programs.
The program will provide intensive language training for
Limited English Proficiency (LEP) and former LEP students,
and Spanish immersion in parallel for native English speakers.
The program is conducted two periods every day. Curricula
will focus on speaking, literary analysis, expository composition,
research techniques, including statistical analysis. All students
will also participate in a reality based computer, mass communications
and business practicum-an authentic assessment that is broadcast
to 70,000 listeners and viewers.
At the 9th and 10th grades, accelerated English and Spanish
will be integrated with business concepts, computers and media
technology. With the assistance of our mentors, student teams
will create products for local radio and TV stations. Upper
level students will expand their knowledge of the telecommunications
field through guidance from mentors and on-site internships.
This program will use technology in a variety of worksite
and education settings. Classroom computers will have software
packages in both English and Spanish, using computer training
to also increase bilingual abilities. Students will learn
how language skills, computers, and various types of software
are used in industry. Students will also use radio broadcasting,
voice recording, video and camera equipment, and other applicable
technology on the worksites to increase language skills while
gaining understanding of the industry. Worksites include a
radio station, two television stations, a newspaper, Office
of Emergency Services, and a marketing firm. |
