California State University Trustees Approve
2009-10 Budget Request to the State
November 18, 2008 – The California State University Board of Trustees’ Committee on Finance today approved a $5.1 billion budget request to the state for fiscal year 2009-10, which consists of $3.5 billion from the State General Fund and $1.6 billion from student fee revenue. Read Press Release.

Governor’s Proposed Budget Reductions Include
Mid-Year Cuts to CSU
November 6, 2008 — In acknowledgement of the state’s worsening economic condition and sharp revenue decline, today Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger called the Legislature into a special session to make spending reductions and revenue increases. The Governor’s plan proposed further budget cuts of $66.3 million to the California State University for the current 2008-09 budget. Read Press Release.

State Budget Restrains Enrollment Growth at California State University
September 23, 2008 — The new state budget provides the California State University system with essentially the same level of state support as last year. The final CSU budget consists of $2.97 billion from the state General Fund and $1.5 billion from student fee revenue. The budget is $215 million below CSU’s operational needs for 2008-09, according to the inflation and enrollment growth calculations by the Governor’s Department of Finance. Press Release.

Leaders Make Case for Higher Education
April 1, 2008—California’s three segments of public higher education stand united in urging the state of California to invest in its colleges and universities as a path of creating greater opportunity for the next generation of Californians, and to ensure the state’s economic vitality. That was the message when leaders of the three systems – CSU Chancellor Charles Reed, University of California Provost Rory Hume, and California Community Colleges Chancellor Diane Woodruff recently discussed the proposed budget cuts.

Campus Budget Forums Scheduled
March 12, 2008—Each of the CSU’s 23 campuses will be holding a campus-wide forum to brief students, faculty, staff, administrators, local legislators and community members about the governor’s proposed $386 million reduction the CSU’s budget and its impact to the local campus. The goal of the forums is to let attendees know how they can support the campus and urge lawmakers to preserve access to high-quality, affordable education throughout the CSU.

CSU Faces Budget Cuts
Jan. 10, 2008—Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has proposed a $312.9 million cut to the California State University budget approved by the CSU Board of Trustees for the 2008/09 fiscal year. The proposed budget fails to fund access for 10,000 students, $36 million in mandatory costs including employee health benefits, and compensation agreements for CSU faculty and staff.
