Ian Ruddell is currently pursuing a degree in multicultural and gender studies with a minor in women's studies at California State University, Chico. In 2010, the CSU Board of Trustees recognized Ruddell’s academic excellence, advocacy for social justice, and campus involvement with the William Randolph Hearst/CSU Trustee’s Award for Outstanding Achievement.
At CSU Chico, Ruddell served as the director of the Associated Students Women’s Center and co-founded the Chico State Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Leadership Conference. Since 2009, he has served as the co-president of the PRIDE/Safezone club and as a committee member for Conversations on Diversity. Ruddell also received a summer stipend from the University Honors Program to develop a proposal to establish the Gender and Sexuality Equity Center at CSU Chico.
Ruddell has been on the CSU Chico President and Superintendent’s list for academic excellence since 2008. He intends to pursue a Ph.D. in sociology with a possible career goal of becoming a university professor while continuing his commitment to activism.
