Alumni Voices and Views
Alumni voices throughout the state tell the story of the California State University. It is a story about educational quality, access for students, the impact on California, and environmental sustainability.
As I looked out on the City of Refuge congregation, every young face radiated that same spark of potential I see in them. Some people talk about youth as lost and aimless. The young men and women of City are not lost. They are found and they are alive with the promise of a prosperous and blessed future.
“If you believe it, you can achieve it. If you can dream it, you can become it.” This quote has a lot of meaning to me. It was the theme of my valedictory speech when I graduated from community college and transferred to California State University.
I grew up in the neighborhood of Bryant Temple AME Church, and this month I am privileged to speak to the congregation on behalf of the California State University African American Initiative during Super Sunday.
