Society's needs for higher education are not confined to workforce needs. There is also need for individuals who can be community leaders, who live healthy lives of civic engagement, and who work to make our democratic institutions successful. Some of this will result from more people having enough economic security to enjoy better health, longer lives, and more leisure time. Higher education can and will contribute to such positive change, because of the economic benefits that come from a college education.
