RATIONALE: The Alliance for the CSU – including the Office of the Chancellor, the CSU campus Presidents, the California Faculty Association (CFA), the California State University Employees Union (CSUEU), and the California State Student Association (CSSA) – proved  effective through Spring and Summer 2008 in presenting a unified message on behalf of the CSU to decision makers in Sacramento. The Alliance’s efforts to protect and enhance public higher education in the State of California as the “economic engine” and “workforce provider” temporarily resulted in partial-but-substantial restoration of funds initially cut from the Governor’s proposed CSU budget of January 2008. The Academic Senate CSU commends the Alliance and recommends that it continue its efforts on behalf of the CSU, especially in light of actual and looming cuts in the 2008-2009 budget, and the likelihood of an even more dire budget situation for the 2009-10 year. The Academic Senate CSU also calls for an active role for itself and for CSU campus senates in promoting and sustaining the Alliance.
