Resolution on the Retirement of Senator Julian Randolph

WHEREAS, Julian Randolph has represented and served the faculty of San Francisco State University through two exemplary terms on the Academic Senate of the California State University; and
WHEREAS, Senator Randolph, by positive example and force of personality, whipped the Academic Affairs Committee, and more recently, the Faculty Affairs Committee into the efficient and effective policy machines they have become; and
WHEREAS, Senator Randolph has encouraged, cajoled, browbeat, and mentored an entire generation of Academic Senate chairs and faculty trustees; and
WHEREAS, Julian Randolph is retiring from the Academic Senate CSU in order to pursue the altogether too comfortable life of a full-time department chair and professor of Spanish; and
WHEREAS, Julian Randolph will be
simultaneously
retiring, after 21 years, from the Academic Senate of San Francisco State University, which he led as chair from 1978 to 1980; therefore be it
RESOLVED: That the Academic Senate of the California State University honor and commend Julian Randolph for his years of service, good friendship, wit, and wisdom; and be it further
RESOLVED: That the Academic Senate CSU urge Professor Randolph to spend the first week of each September, November, January, March, and May in quiet contemplation and spiritual reflection as a way of suppressing the urge to giggle that may accompany withdrawal from the Senate; and be if further
RESOLVED: That the Academic Senate CSU promise Professor Randolph that for him, it will always
habla españole.
