Senator Erwin L. Kelly, Jr., Commendation

AS-2286-95/CSUS Del.

WHEREAS, Erwin Kelly has served with distinction as a member of the Sacramento delegation to the Academic Senate of the California State University for the past nine years; and

WHEREAS, During his tenure as an Academic Senator, Erwin Kelly has served as a member of the Faculty Affairs Committee, Governmental Affairs Committee, Academic Affairs Committee, and Chair of the Committee on Statewide and International Programs; and

WHEREAS, Erwin Kelly has represented the Academic Senate CSU on innumerable systemwide and intersegmental task forces, advisory councils and commissions, and is one of very few Senators who can remember what the acronyms for these groups stand for; and

WHEREAS, If he had the chance, Erwin Kelly would even take on SPIT; and

WHEREAS, Erwin Kelly's work at the statewide level has contributed significantly to expansion of international programs, extended learning opportunities, and use of instructional technology in the CSU in ways that are educationally sound, cost effective, student centered, and faculty based; and

WHEREAS, Erwin will not be returning to the Academic Senate CSU in Fall 1995, not because he is unwilling or unelectable, or because no one will stay with him at the Beachtown, but because the Sacramento campus imposes term limits on its delegation; and

WHEREAS, The Sacramento delegation in the dark of the balcony of this assembly will greatly miss the light that Erwin Kelly’s being brings to the platform, even though it is sometimes not visible  to the assembly below us; and

WHEREAS, It is unlikely that anyone even closely resembling Erwin Kelly in form or function will replace him since the mold was broken even before Senator Kelly was made; and

WHEREAS, Erwin Kelly has occasionally reminded the Senate that he is an economist; therefore be it

RESOLVED: That the Academic Senate of the California State University commend and extend its greatest appreciation to Erwin Kelly for his distinguished service on behalf of students and faculty as a member of the Sacramento delegation; and be it further

RESOLVED: That the Academic Senate CSU look forward to its continued association with Erwin Kelly through his participation on systemwide and intersegmental groups of the CSU; and be it further

RESOLVED: The Academic Senate CSU wish Erwin Kelly well in his efforts to advance the Labor Economics Program at CSU Sacramento.
