Support for State Tax Incentives for College Savings Plans

WHEREAS, the rapidly increasing cost of higher education in California places students and their families in difficult circumstances as they attempt to plan for the costs of higher education; and
WHEREAS, public policy proposals to allow students and their families to make reasonable plans for affording higher education are deserving of support; and
WHEREAS, SB 1990 (Killea), as introduced on February 25, 1994, would provide for deductions from state personal income taxes for specified forms of savings for the costs of higher education; therefore be it
RESOLVED: that the Academic Senate of the California State University endorse reasonable policy proposals such as state tax incentives designed to help students and their families save for the costs of higher education; and be it further
RESOLVED: that the Academic Senate CSU endorse SB 1990 (Killea), as introduced on February 25, 1994.
