CSU Budget Request for 2010-11
RESOLVED: That the Academic Senate of the California State University (ASCSU) urge the Chancellor and Board of Trustees to include in the CSU 2010-11 budget request to the Legislature and Governor, replacement of any lost funds from 2009-10, as well as any federal stimulus funds that were received in 2009-10; and be it further
RESOLVED: That the ASCSU encourage the Chancellor and Board of Trustees to pursue restoration of funding for collective bargaining agreements from 2008-09 forward; and be it further
RESOLVED: That the ASCSU declare that neither furloughs nor salary reductions form the basis for a sustainable, long-term solution to the CSU budget crisis and that the Chancellor and Board of Trustees should not include either in 2010-11 budget planning; and be it further
RESOLVED: That the ASCSU urge that, to prevent any further diminution in educational quality, the CSU limit enrollment to the number of students for which it is fully funded; and be it further
RESOLVED: That the ASCSU recognize that any reduction to the CSU budget impacts the educational mission of the CSU; and be it further
RESOLVED: That the ASCSU send copies of this resolution to the Chancellor, the Board of Trustees, campus presidents and provosts, and campus senates.
RATIONALE: The CSU suffered more than a half billion dollar cut in state funding in 2009-10. This is on top of cumulative cuts of more than another half billion dollars during the past five years. It is critical that the State desist from making further cuts in the CSU budget if California is to maintain its competitive position in a global economy which will rely significantly on a well educated workforce.
