Commendation of Dr. Dennis Muraoka

WHEREAS, Dennis Muraoka has served with distinction on the Academic Senate of the California State University for 4 years, representing California State University Channel Islands, and is now entering another phase of his CSU life as the newly appointed Interim Associate Provost at CSUCI, beginning September 15, 2007 and has served with distinction as a member of the systemwide Fiscal and Governmental Affairs Committee and the Commission on Extended University; and

WHEREAS, On his campus Dennis Muraoka has served as the Special Assistant to the President for Institutional Effectiveness and Accreditation Liaison Officer – or as he is lovingly referred to (by his colleagues) as the “WASC King”, campus Senate chair, Professor of Economics and “first” (founding) faculty, and a wise & trusted faculty member, a most extraordinary combination; and

WHEREAS, On his campus Dennis Muraoka is known for his leadership in shaping the vision, mission and sense of community and engagement of the academic community of the “newest campus” of the CSU; and

WHEREAS, Dennis Muraoka has served as a member of the Fiscal and Government Affairs Committee of the ASCSU and provided sound and thoughtful advice and guidance to the FGA Committee; and

WHEREAS, Dennis Muraoka while serving on the FGA committee was able to maintain his professional demeanor in the face of frequent ranting on the part of other committee members; and

WHEREAS, Dennis Muraoka over the past three years has accomplished more real work while sitting through long Plenary meetings than any other senator; and

WHEREAS, Dennis Muraoka has acknowledged that he is going over to the dark side and appears to show no shame; therefore be it

RESOLVED: That the ASCSU congratulates Dennis Muraoka on his most extraordinary combination of campus and systemwide jobs and roles, and thanks him for his dedication to shared governance and service in the ASCSU; and be it further

RESOLVED: That the Academic Senate CSU wishes Dennis Muraoka the best in his newest CSU appointment/role as Associate Provost for Academic Affairs noting that his many contributions will truly be missed; and be it further

RESOLVED: That the Academic Senate CSU also wishes Dennis Muraoka success in all of his future professional and personal endeavors.
