Commendation of Dr. Marvin Klein

AS-2807-07/Pomona Del. - May 10-11, 2007

WHEREAS, Marvin Klein has served with distinction on the Academic Senate of the California State University for 10 years, representing California Polytechnic State University, Pomona, and is now entering the Faculty Early Retirement Program; and

WHEREAS, Marvin Klein has served with distinction as Chair and Vice Chair of the Teacher Education and K-12 Relations Committee and as a member of both the Academic Affairs and the Fiscal and Governmental Affairs Committees; and

WHEREAS, On his campus Marvin Klein has served as the Acting Provost, campus Senate chair, associate college dean, and a faculty member, a most extraordinary combination, but it should be added not at the same time; and

WHEREAS, On his campus Marvin Klein is known for his international experience in Russia, Sri Lanka, Yemen, Japan, and Ghana; and

WHEREAS, Marvin Klein has served as a member of at least 12 systemwide committees, ranging from the ELM Advisory Committee to the General Education Advisory Committee, and the Task Force on the Roles and Responsibilities of Department Chairs, contributing his knowledge of shared governance practices to all of these bodies; and

WHEREAS, Marvin Klein is known for his most gracious chauffeur service to his fellow CPSU Pomona Statewide Senator, as well as his knowledge of Long Beach restaurants, having resolutely refused to be sidetracked to a certain restaurant known for its chicken wings among other things; and

WHEREAS, Marvin Klein is NOT known for his knowledge about what leaving the headlights on does to a car's battery while parked at the Hyatt Hotel; therefore be it

RESOLVED: That the ASCSU congratulates Marvin Klein on his most extraordinary combination of campus and systemwide jobs and roles, and thanks him for his dedication to shared governance and service in the ASCSU; and be it further

RESOLVED: That the Academic Senate CSU wishes Marvin Klein the best in his future endeavors, noting that his wry sense of humor and many contributions, not the least of which was the chauffeur service, will truly be missed.
