In Support of AB 302 (De La Torre & Ruskin): Cal Grant “B” Entitlement Awards: Award Amounts

RESOLVED: That the Academic Senate of the California State University (ASCSU) endorse the principle of improving access to the CSU for students with financial need while protecting high quality education; and be it further
RESOLVED: That the ASCSU support AB 302 (De La Torre & Ruskin) which furthers access to higher education in California for low income students; and be it further
RESOLVED: That the ASCSU forward copies of this resolution to the Chancellor, the Board of Trustees, Assemblymember De La Torre, the Speaker of the Assembly and the President pro Temp of the Senate and the Governor.
RATIONALE: This bill would increase Cal Grant “B” Entitlement Awards in the student’s first academic year at California’s public and private universities by the amount necessary to pay for fees; and be it further Financial stability is critical for the access, retention, and success of first-year university students. Increasing first-year Cal Grant B awards for financially qualified first year students will help achieve that goal.
