Commendation of Cheryl Mason

WHEREAS, Cheryl Mason has ably represented her San Diego State University (SDSU) faculty colleagues as a member of the Academic Senate California State University (CSU) during the past year; and
WHEREAS, Cheryl has served the Academic Senate CSU well as a member of its Committee on Teacher Education and K-12 Relations (TEKR); and
WHEREAS, Cheryl serves as a member of our Academic Senate CSU Task Force on the Establishment of Academic Policies for the Independent CSU Doctor of Education Degree (Ed.D. Task Force); and
WHEREAS, Cheryl has contributed immensely to-actually constituted-the character and class of the SDSU delegation at its Thursday evening Long Beach dinners; and
WHEREAS, Cheryl, in her role as Professor of Science Education and Biology in the SDSU School for Teacher Education, wishes to devote more time to her research, teaching, and service to the elementary and secondary students and teachers of San Diego's public schools, the students and faculty of SDSU, and the national and international communities of scholars addressing the challenges of science education; and
WHEREAS, Cheryl intends to accomplish this through continuing her work to support precollege teachers in efforts to construct science classroom environments that encourage girls and members of underrepresented groups to have a positive attitude toward science and scientists and through working to develop curricula that develop visual/spatial thinking skills; therefore be it
RESOLVED: That the Academic Senate CSU extends its deep gratitude for her time and service to TEKR, the Senate, and its Ed. D. Task Force, and expresses its support for her pursuit of research, teaching, and service as an outstanding exemplar of the faculty of SDSU and the CSU.
