Commendation for Sam Edelman

WHEREAS, Sam Edelman has served the faculty, Academic Senate California State University (CSU), and the CSU thoughtfully and professionally; and

WHEREAS, Sam's commitment to excellence in teaching and to high quality learning has been demonstrated by his work as an educator, faculty member, Senate Chair, Academic Affairs Committee member, member of the Committee on Teacher Education and K-12 Relations, as well as in his assignments to many special committees; and

WHEREAS, Sam has served on numerous Systemwide committees, including the Academic Technology Advisory Committee, General Education Committee, and CSU Faculty Workload Committee where his knowledge and understanding of the California system of higher education has served the CSU faculty well; and

WHEREAS, The CSU, faculty, students and others who have had the pleasure to work with Sam have benefited from his knowledge, diligence and commitment to shared governance, academic freedom and higher education; and

WHEREAS, Sam is taking a leave from the CSU to become the Dean of Undergraduate Education at the Hebrew University, Los Angeles; and

WHEREAS, Sam Edelman has many colleagues at the Academic Senate CSU who will greatly miss his wit, humor and ability to clearly articulate the obvious; therefore be it

RESOLVED: That the Academic Senate CSU extends its deep gratitude to Sam for his many year of service to Academic Affairs and the Academic Senate CSU and its best wishes for his next years as a Dean of Undergraduate Education, and continued success in his career and commitment to higher education.
