Availability of Paper Copy of CSU Catalogs
AS-2739-06/AA - March 9-10, 2006
ATTACHMENT TO AS-2739-06/AA
RESOLVED: That the Academic Senate of the California State University (CSU) fully support the attached joint resolution "REQUEST FOR PAPER COPY UNIVERSITY AND COLLEGE CATALOGS" from the California Intersegmental Articulation Council (CIAC) and the California Community Colleges Transfer Center Directors Association (CCC-TCDA).
RATIONALE: In this day and age it is indisputable that class schedules and academic catalog content should be available in an online format. There are also situations where having a printed catalog is clearly advantageous - such as exploring various major and minor options when meeting with a student during freshman advising. In these and other situations spelled out in the rationale and cover letter of the attached resolution comprehension and speed of information access/conveyance can be improved with a paper copy of the university catalog(s). Similarly, having a paper copy of a catalog allows one to have a record of "old" degree requirements and the ability to examine course descriptors prior to their most recent revision without fear of losing conceivably critical information due to system updates.
