Honoring Jason Murphy, 2006 Recipient of the
Distinguished Legislative Staff Award

WHEREAS, Jason W. Murphy has, for more than
a decade, served the cause of higher education in California through
his work for the California Student Aid Commission, the Chancellor’s
Office of the California Community Colleges, and the California
Legislature; and
WHEREAS, Jason W. Murphy, for more than five
years, has served as Consultant for the Senate Subcommittee on
Higher Education; and
WHEREAS, As Consultant for the Senate Education
Committee, Jason W. Murphy has played a central role in the passage
of SB 724, thus providing education professionals access to affordable,
high quality doctoral programs (EdD) in the field of educational
leadership; and
WHEREAS, Jason W. Murphy has worked diligently
to facilitate student progress through California’s higher
education system by his efforts in areas such as easing student
transfer (SB 1785) and streamlining the college financial aid
process (SB 728); and
WHEREAS, Jason W. Murphy is an alumnus of California
State University, Chico, having graduated with honors in Political
Science; and
WHEREAS, Jason W. Murphy sets an example for
living a balanced life by complementing his work in the Capitol
with such “real world” activities as hiking, biking,
and participation in foreign language immersion programs in South
America; and
WHEREAS, His career and record of public service
have displayed a commitment to higher education and the students
of California that promises well for his future in public service;
therefore be it
RESOLVED: That the Academic Senate of the California
State University congratulate Jason Murphy as the 2006 recipient
of our Distinguished Legislative Staff Award to be presented on
April 18, 2006.
