Commendation of David McNeil
AS-2706-05/EX - May 5-6, 2005
WHEREAS, David McNeil's service on the Academic Senate of
the California State University (CSU) has spanned nearly two decades; and
WHEREAS, During that time, David McNeil has developed unrivaled
expertise in the international cuisine of Long Beach and the vicinity, which has
benefited many members of the Academic Senate CSU as he has guided them to venues
where they have expanded their gastronomic and linguistic experiences as well as
their waistlines without seriously deflating their wallets; and
WHEREAS, David McNeil has added a European perspective to
our understanding of history and all things literate; and
WHEREAS, David McNeil has made extraordinary contributions
to the Academic Senate CSU as a representative to more than three score committees,
councils, commissions, task forces, panels, study groups, and workgroups, as well
as countless ad hoc entities and legislative hearings; as a member of the Master
Plan Working Group on Student Learning; as chair and vice-chair of the Academic
Affairs Committee; and as member at large of the executive committee, as
vice-chair, and as chair of the Academic Senate CSU; and
WHEREAS, All who have worked with David McNeil have benefited
from his kindness and concern for colleagues and have been inspired by the solid
values and principles that underlie his commitment to and actions in support of
shared governance; and
WHEREAS, The debt of gratitude owed to David McNeil by all
of his colleagues in the CSU, and especially those in the Academic Senate CSU,
can never be repaid in full; therefore be it
RESOLVED: That the members of the Academic Senate of the
California State University (CSU) express to David McNeil their deepest appreciation
for his guidance, leadership, service, and wisdom; and be it further
RESOLVED: That the Academic Senate CSU especially commend
and thank David McNeil for his service as Chair of the Academic Senate CSU;
and be it further
RESOLVED: That the Academic Senate wish David McNeil
auguri and buon viaggio as he and Sally find time to enjoy
their second home under the Tuscan sun.
