Commendation of Eunice McKinney Aaron

WHEREAS, Eunice McKinney Aaron has been a member of the
faculty of San Francisco State University, as a lecturer in Black Studies and
Ethnic Studies, since 1980; and
WHEREAS, Eunice McKinney Aaron has been a member of the
Academic Senate of the California State University since 1997; and
WHEREAS, Eunice McKinney Aaron has served with distinction
on the Faculty Affairs Committee and the Fiscal and Governmental Affairs
Committee; and
WHEREAS, Eunice McKinney Aaron has served with distinction
as a member of the Educational Equity Advisory Council, the AIDS Task Force,
the Faculty Trustee Nominating Committee, the Financial Aid Advisory Council,
the Advisory Committee on the CSU Pre-Doctoral Program, and many more committees
and taskforces; and
WHEREAS, Eunice McKinney Aaron has always spoken with feeling
and conviction about the importance of putting best outcomes for students as the
highest principle in any decision-making; and
WHEREAS, Eunice McKinney Aaron has, in true Socratic fashion,
been the conscience of the Academic Senate CSU and a gadfly for the CSU, much
to the joy and admiration of her colleagues; and
WHEREAS, Eunice McKinney Aaron has enlivened our discussions
with her broad perspective on the real-politik of the CSU and the State
of California, as well as her trenchant and even wicked sense of humor; and
WHEREAS, Eunice McKinney Aaron has often reminded us that
there are times when we must take action simply because it is "the right thing
to do"; therefore be it
RESOLVED: By the Academic Senate of the California State
University that the Senate thank Eunice McKinney Aaron for her years of service
to the Senate and to the students and faculty of the California State University;
and be it further
RESOLVED: By the Academic Senate of the California State
University that it will henceforth never hesitate to take action when it is "the
right thing to do."
