the campuses to make a good-faith effort to protect the work assignments and the welfare of
currently-employed lecturers; and be it further
RESOLVED: That the Academic Senate CSU urge the Vice Chancellor for Human Resources
to participate actively in all processes that might mitigate the negative effect of the
budget crisis on temporary faculty; and be it further
RESOLVED: That this resolution be sent to all campus senate chairs and vice
presidents of Academic Affairs for distribution to department chairs and program
directors.
RATIONALE: The ongoing unprecedented budget crisis in California threatens the
availability of work for temporary faculty in the CSU and offers faculty, including
department chairs and program directors, very few positive choices. The Academic Senate CSU
has in the past written to campuses urging them to take action mitigating the effects of
budget exigency on temporary faculty and accord to them the concern and respect that they
would show to permanent faculty.
