Commendation for Senator Bethany Shifflett

WHEREAS, Bethany Shifflett has served the Academic Senate of the California State University as a statewide Academic Senator representing San Jose State University for 7 years, in 1994/5 and again from 1997-2003; and

WHEREAS, Bethany Shifflett has served the Academic Senate of San Jose State University in countless capacities but most notably as Chair of the Senate in 1995-96; and

WHEREAS, In her service to the ASCSU, Bethany Shifflett chaired the Faculty Affairs Committee and three times chaired the Fiscal and Government Affairs Committee, regularly served on the Summer Arts Advisory Council, and undertook more than 20 assignments to numerous and diverse committees; and

WHEREAS, Bethany Shifflett has earned the reputation of being among the ASCSU's most industrious, organized, and effective members, making the committees she has chaired highly productive contributors to our shared governance; and

WHEREAS, Bethany Shifflett now departs the ASCSU but will continue her commitment to service by leading the faculty involvement in SJSU's WASC reaccreditation; and

WHEREAS, Bethany Shifflett exemplifies the laudable characteristics of procedural fairness, scientific rigor, institutional devotion, and collegial tone; and

WHEREAS, Bethany Shifflett's virtuosity in ballroom dance, the dance of senate politics, and the dance of life is apparent to us all; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED: That the Academic Senate of the California State University, your friends, and colleagues, express gratitude for your service and devotion, and wish you continued success in all your future endeavors.
