Systemwide Task Force to Study Educational Support Services
AS-2568-02/EX - May 2-3, 2002
RESOLVED: That the Academic Senate of the California State University (CSU)
recommend to the Chancellor that a systemwide task force be appointed composed of
representatives from the various divisions of Educational Support Services, from the Vice
Presidents of Student Affairs; from the Provosts for Academic Affairs; from the student
body; from the CSU and campus Academic Senates; as well as from the Academic Affairs
division of the Chancellor's Office; and be it further
RESOLVED: That this task force be charged with reviewing the present status of
Educational Support Services reflecting the losses that occurred in the 1990s and since
and to project the needs for an adequate educational support system for the beginning
of the 21st century and forward.
RATIONALE: There has been a long-term concern about the adequacy of
educational support services exemplified in requests for additional funding for student
services in the past two Board of Trustees budgets. There is considerable evidence that
CSU students need various support services such as counseling, advising, and career
guidance in order to continue their enrollment and proceed expeditiously to graduation.
Educational support services are integral to the education of students as whole persons
and to life long learning. There is an urgent need for evidence about the present
status and needs in educational support services. The last study of educational support
services was conducted in 1989.
