Commendation for Timothy Kersten

WHEREAS, Timothy Kersten resigned from the Academic Senate of the California
State University after 18 years of distinguished service to that body; and
WHEREAS, Timothy Kersten served the Academic Senate CSU as a member of the
Executive Committee, chaired the Faculty Affairs Committee two different times, chaired
Fiscal and Governmental Affairs and served as vice chair of these committees several
times; and
WHEREAS, Timothy Kersten represented the Academic Senate CSU on several systemwide
committees including the Admissions Advisory Council, the Task Force on Academic Freedom
and Responsibility, and the Committee on Joint Responsibility with the Trustees; and
WHEREAS, Timothy Kersten has been an outstanding advocate for collegiality
during his tenure in the Academic Senate CSU; and
WHEREAS, Timothy Kersten was an "unofficial" parliamentarian of the Academic
Senate CSU who frequently raised a point of order to bring the body out of a parliamentary
quagmire; and
WHEREAS, Timothy Kersten was also an "unofficial" conscience of the Academic
Senate CSU by frequently and eloquently pointing out the ethical and moral implications
of the issues before the body; and
WHEREAS, Timothy Kersten was the official Academic Senate CSU authority on jazz
and a good martini; therefore be it
RESOLVED: That the Academic Senate of the California State University express
its appreciation and thanks to Timothy Kersten for his many years of dedication and
service to the body; and be it further
RESOLVED: That the Academic Senate CSU wish Timothy Kersten the best for
whatever endeavors he chooses to pursue in the future.
