Resolution in Honor of Senator Peter Phillips
AS-2543-01/Sonoma - May 10-11, 2001
RESOLVED: That the Academic Senate of the California State University wholeheartedly extend its appreciation to Peter Phillips, Department of Sociology, Sonoma State University, and campus representative to the Statewide Academic Senate, 1998-2001, for his tireless work for the good of students and faculty of the CSU through his independent and incisive contributions on the Academic Affairs Committee of the CSU and in the Senate's plenary sessions.
RESOLVED: That the Academic Senate CSU thank Peter Phillips for his independence of mind and dedication to the success of the CSU as the People's University of the State of California and recognize his efforts to secure equity not only for students, staff and faculty of the CSU, but for all working people.
RATIONALE: Peter Phillips has contributed to the national dialogue through his editorial stewardship of "Project Censored," an annual book that highlights stories of national importance that are overlooked or under-published by the national press. His students evaluate the stories with the attention that good social scientists should apply to any news event or story. He demands that his crusading students not be ill informed as they evaluate stories for the publication. The Academic Senate of the California State University has been the beneficiary of this skill on numerous occasions.
The Academic Senate CSU will miss Peter Phillips' independent counsel and wishes him well in his future endeavors.
